Xavier Banez studied mechanical engineering before he started working as Application Engineer at FlexLink in Spain. Apart from being responsible for designing creative and “out of the box”- solutions for the customers, he is also a quality coordinator taking care of the ISO procedures at the Spanish office. Expands his professional horizon through new roles and functions

“I have been working as an Application Engineer at FlexLink in Spain since 2001”, Xavier explains. “When a customer reaches out to us at FlexLink, we first analyze and define the customer’s needs in order to provide a solution that lives up to their expectations. Then, it is my job to design and present solutions to the customer that solve their problems and fulfill their needs. Apart from that, I am also a quality coordinator taking care of the ISO procedures at our Spanish office.”

Implementation of new global quality procedures at the Spanish office

The International Organization for Standardization, ISO, is an independent, non-governmental organization that was founded ‘to facilitate the international coordination and unification of industrial standards’. The standards give world-class specifications for products, services and systems to ensure quality, safety and efficiency, covering almost all aspects of technology and manufacturing.

“Being a quality coordinator for the ISO procedures means that I am responsible for keeping a close contact with the centralized quality department at FlexLink and communicate all quality related matters to the employees in Spain. I am also responsible for implementing new global quality procedures at the Spanish office as well as look for improvements regarding local procedures”, Xavier explains. “We also perform customer satisfaction surveys on a yearly basis, which is a part of our quality work. The survey consists of a few questions that help us determine the customers’ satisfaction level. The results of the surveys help us evaluate our work to become even better at living up to our customers’ expectations.”

An environment that fosters creativity and free thinking

“In my job, it is very important to be creative and think outside the box”, he says. “I often come up with brand new solutions that must be cost-oriented and creative to meet the customers’ needs. During my sixteen years working at FlexLink, I cannot recall a single time when we have delivered the exact same solution twice. This makes every day challenging and keeps you from getting bored at work. Another part of my job, which I really like, is the contact with the customers and the interaction with people on a daily basis. In addition, I have a lot of freedom in my work, which I put a lot of value in.”

“I also really enjoy FlexLink as a workplace”, Xavier says. “It is a flat organization and if you, for example, feel that you need to talk to the CEO you are very welcome to do so. I have been here for many years and the atmosphere is always very open and informal. Also, all employees are very motivated and work toward specific goals.”

A good balance between work and personal life

“When I am not working, I like to do a lot of different things. During the summers, I like to go scuba diving. I also play bass in a rock band. We don’t do many concerts, we just like to make some noise and spend time with friends at the same time”, Xavier says. “However, most of my time I spend with my daughter. Together, we read, hang out with friends and go to concerts. Spending time with her is my true passion!”
